Educational game about safe digging practices has received finishing touches

Digger is ready to help kids learn how to dig safe with his interactive guide to Safe Bone Burying. The interactive game has received its final touches and is now playable online at SafetyinSchools.ca.

Digger’s Guide to Safe Bone Burying was developed by the ABCGA and Safety in Schools in order to introduce 9- to 12-year-olds to basic safe digging practices in the classroom and to the importance of calling or clicking before you dig.

“By introducing kids to these concepts early, we can make a greater impact through radio, internet and other advertising as this generation ages,” Sara Rooseboom says, program director with Safety in Schools. “They will already understand what safe digging, ground disturbance and call or click before you dig mean.”

The interactive game will be distributed to students with the help of Ag for Life, an Alberta organization that offers educational programming to help improve rural and farm safety.

The program was made possible thanks to funding from Alberta Labour through an Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Innovation and Engagement Grant.
